Older magma at Aso caldera than at Unzen stratovolcano in south west Japan as recorded through helium isotopes

چکیده

Abstract Stratovolcanoes form conical mountains by ejecta and lava, while caldera volcanoes have depressions caused post collapse. Few studies investigated relationships between this morphology difference discharged fluid geochemistry. Here we present helium isotope ratios of geothermal fluids groundwater inside outside the Mt. Aso, Japan, compare these to in at Unzen, a stratovolcano same tectonic field. We find that isotopes decrease proportion distance from central part volcano. However, inferred magmas are lower Aso relative Unzen. combine result with seismic tomography data suggest may not be receiving new mantle material magma reservoir. Thus, conclude volcano Mt probably features older more developed systems than

Using Magma Mixing/Mingling Evidence for Understanding Magmatic Evolution at Mount Bidkhan Stratovolcano (South-East Iran)

Mount Bidkhan stratovolcano is located in the central Iranian volcanic belt. It is composed of several types of pyroclastic deposits, lava flows and intrusive bodies. Textural and chemical characteristics of plagioclase phenocrysts from the eruptive products volcanic edifice, record complex magma mixing events over the lifetime of the volcano. Evidences such as xenocrystic high Al+Ti clinopyrox...

Magma reservoir dynamics at Toba caldera, Indonesia, recorded by oxygen isotope zoning in quartz

Quartz is a common phase in high-silica igneous rocks and is resistant to post-eruptive alteration, thus offering a reliable record of magmatic processes in silicic magma systems. Here we employ the 75 ka Toba super-eruption as a case study to show that quartz can resolve late-stage temporal changes in magmatic δ18O values. Overall, Toba quartz crystals exhibit comparatively high δ18O values, u...

Repetitive fracturing during spine extrusion at Unzen volcano, Japan

Rhythmic seismicity associated with spine extrusion is a well-documented phenomenon at a number of dome-forming volcanic systems. At Unzen volcano, Japan, a 4-year dome-forming eruption concluded with the emplacement of a spine from October 1994 to February 1995, offering a valuable opportunity to further investigate seismogenic processes at dome-forming volcanoes. Using continuous data recorde...
